Erto, Casso and the Vajont valley

Erto, Casso and the Vajont valley

The valley of Vajont is sadly known throughout Italy for the disaster that in 1963 caused the deaths of nearly 2000 people when a large slice of Mount Toc fell into the artificial lake causing a tsunami that had a two times stronger impact than the bomb of Hiroshima. During this tour we will see the places that will help us understand how this state massacre has taken place, but we will go further, and we will also see the beautiful natural biodiversity of this valley that is included in the Friuli Dolomites Natural Park.

We will start from the dam, go up to Casso, from where you have the best panorama on the landslide, and then head towards Erto along the Coal path, a splendid historical-naturalistic itinerary. At Erto we could devote ourselves to a tasting of typical products, after which we will explore the streets of the historic center before returning to the starting point.
